Can Felons Get Jobs in Bodyguard Jobs Available?

We received this question from a follower on our Facebook page and provided the following response:

Q:   I am a military veteran having trouble finding work and I’m unable to pay child support and feed my family.  I’m looking for security jobs, mercenary jobs, or even bodyguard jobs available.  Can people with felony convictions apply for these types of jobs?  – Damarquis,  Toledo, Ohio

A:   Damarquis -  Congratulations on your efforts in securing fulltime work after being convicted of a felony.   To answer your question in short summary, ‘yes’, you can work in jobs related to security, bodyguard work and even in mercenary positions.  Typically these types of jobs will depend upon the employer and what their requirements may be.   But, in many cases, if your felony was a non-violent felony, the company will permit you to work in a security, mercenary, or bodyguard position.   It is important to keep in mind that, in most cases, bodyguard positions are easiest to obtain as they are often contract or freelance jobs.   Once you’ve obtained experience in this type of work, then gradually work your way up to a more permanent position.  Mercenary jobs, in most cases, will require overseas travel and, as a result, be sure you have a passport ready to be used and that you can obtain a work or employment visa for any potential company you want to travel to.  In addition, keep in mind that Obama’s “American Jobs Act” wouldn’t have provided any additional incentive for this type of work but future proceedings from Congress may provide this type of security in jobs.  We wish you the best in finding the best felony job for you and your family.
